I‘ve served as a design executive for startups Cameo and TuneIn, backed by Sequoia Capital, IVP, General Catalyst, and many other greats. I’ve led hands-on design and development as Director and Head of UX at Adobe and Google respectively. I’ve had the privilege of participating in design partnership programs with Apple while collaborating with the very best to design, develop, ship and celebrate new products.

I’ve been paid to learn and have deep acumen with Engineering, Product, People Ops, Finance, and Legal. I’ve hired, I’ve fired, and personally experienced both. I nurture high-functioning teams regardless of size. At any scale, I’m in sync with the business.

Principal Designer

From “zero to one”, as they say. The best companies are hiring principal designers to push boundaries, run design critique, uplevel craft, and create proprietary value.

A principal designer paired with a product and engineering executive is a powerful combination. Hands-on, high impact. Some of my best work has been done as a principal designer. It’s a ton of fun.

Designer on a Strategic Project

You might have a product problem that needs some love within a constrained window of time. As an independent, I can bring my diverse experience and expertise to focus on your critical project. I actively design in Figma and in all of the modern tools we use. This includes the tools to measure impact.

My recent contract at Whatnot was an embedment with the most senior group of ICs with whom I’ve ever worked. We set up the new Growth & Games Ecosystem Design Team producing wildly successful results in record time. We were untethered from the product roadmap by design.

In this way, I can dive in and dive out to help all of us learn and grow.

Design Advisor

With 20+ years of professional experience in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and with studio activity in APAC & EMEA, I have seen a lot.

I’ll share with you my mistakes. I’ll also share with you what works. Together, we’ll celebrate the wins as they inevitably arrive.

With my personal studio, I’m actively advising companies on strategies for design that work today and well into later stages as we design, build, and ship great products.

Related, one of my true joys is mentoring designers to be their best creative professional selves. Helping designers from recent grads to very senior ones, I’m here to guide the next generation. This creates a reliable pipeline of talent for our industry while nurturing individual, sustainable careers..

This includes my two teenage sons here in San Francisco, California who have a bright future in creating product, media, and much needed art in the days to come.
